Reflection on Impact of Emerging Markets Essay Example for Free
Reflection on Impact of Emerging Markets Essay The world of business has changed in recent years. Usually, the firms of developed countries dominated the globe and developed countriesââ¬â¢ markets were the most attractive. However, new attractive markets and new players have emerged from areas outside the developed world. These new markets such as the BRICs and the MISTs have large populations, high economic growth and increasing demands for goods. Also, they are expected to surpass the developed economies by 2050 (Goldman Sachs, 2003). According to Jagdish N. Sheth, the emerging markets have impacted both the theory and the practice of marketing. The reason is very simple; marketing is a discipline that was developed in the concept of industrialized (developed) markets meaning that most of the marketing tools are designed to work specifically in industrialized markets (Sheth, 2011). Therefore, adapting most of what is known about marketing is necessary to succeed in new markets and new marketing research approaches need to be taken. The article Impact of Emerging Markets on Marketing: Rethinking Existing Perspectives and Practices covers some of the most important characteristics of these markets such as their growth, market heterogeneity, sociopolitical governance and comparative advantages. Also, the author suggests some changes that need to be made to the existing marketing theory, marketing strategy, marketing policy and marketing practice. Moreover, Sheth argues that companies (from developed countries as well as from the emerging countries) who succeed in the mentioned markets are becoming global competitors. The reason is that these firms have to innovate to overcome challenges such as shortages of resources, inadequate infrastructure and unbranded competition. As a result, innovation makes these firms more efficient as well as it creates a competitive advantage which allows them to compete globally. Having grown up in Mexico, one of the so called MISTs, I can relate many of Shethââ¬â¢s marketing suggestions with some strategies used by Mexican companies. Some of these companies are already global players such as Grupo Bimbo, Cemex and America Movil (Inter-American Developing Bank, 2008). They are strong competitors in the bakery industry, building materials industry and telecom industry respectively. However, there is another rising player named Coppel S.A. de C.V. that already started to expand to other emerging markets outside Mexico, aiming to become a global competitor in the retail business. Coppel is family owned business with 1,000 stores and 80,000 employees in Mexico. Also, it has eight stores in Argentina and eight in Brazil. I will like to focus on Coppel, 2011ââ¬â¢s biggest retailer in Mexico (El Economista, 2012), and how this company has already applied some of Shethââ¬â¢s suggestions to marketing perspectives and practices. Even though the article mentioned many good points to succeed in emerging markets, the most important are purpose driven marketing, resource improvisation, and market development. Purpose driven marketing According to Sheth, purpose driven marketing is going beyond highlighting the benefits of a product or service, creating a lifetime value among the customers, employees and other stakeholders. Coppel wins its customersââ¬â¢ hearts with the slogan ââ¬Å"Coppel Mejora tu vidaâ⬠which translates to ââ¬Å"Coppel improves your lifeâ⬠. Along with the slogan, Coppel offers a range of products such as clothes, furniture, electronic appliances and financial services to the 68 percent of the Mexican population whose monthly income is less than 2,743 pesos, close to 165 EUR (DigitalPersona, 2012). Most of the products sold by Coppel are products that fulfill the customersââ¬â¢ needs. At Coppelââ¬â¢s stores, it would be difficult to find expensive shoes or clothes. Also, Coppel guarantees all the furniture and any electronic product regardless of the brand sold at their stores up to 2 years; while most manufacturers only guarantee the first year. This warranty is very important to the customers since a washing machine or refrigerator can be equivalent to ten or eleven months of salary. In the financial services part, Coppel offers credit to buy goods in the store and cash loans up 1,000 EUR (loyal customers who have been Coppelââ¬â¢s clients for more than a year). Coppel is not as strict as many of the different financial institutions in Mexico which would never lend a single peso to any of Coppelââ¬â¢s customers. In other words, Coppel has a marketing policy of inclusive growth which means including in their policies those markets that marketers would have left out. In addition, Coppel extends its marketing to its stakeholders such as the community, employees, channel partners and suppliers. For the employees and their children, Coppel offers to pay half of their school tuition up to the master degree level as well as provide school supplies for them. Also, Coppel encourages its employees to get married by giving employees up to two monthsââ¬â¢ salary as a wedding present. Marriage is seen as a very important tradition in a conservative country such as Mexico. As a result, Coppel does improve the life of its customers as well as their stakeholders. It focuses on creating a lasting value to position itself as a company that offers more than just quality products and services. For this reason, Coppel has better financial performance than its competitors. Resource improvisation. ââ¬Å"If necessity is the mother of invention, then resource shortage is the father of innovationâ⬠(Sheth 2011). For that reason, firms operating in emerging markets gain advantage by improvising with scarce resources, making them more innovative relative to their competitors. Coppelââ¬â¢s most innovative process is the use of a fingerprint biometrics in the point of sale (POS) and in all operating systems (DigitalPersona 2012). This system has helped to improve the verification process of purchases for 20.6 million customers since a customer can buy on credit (in the store) using just his or her fingerprint without using any type of identification. As mentioned, Coppel has close to 20 million registered customersââ¬â¢ fingerprints in their database. That represents almost 20 percent of the entire Mexican population, which allows Coppel to generate a reliable source of information about its customers. Reliable information about customers is not easy to have in emerging markets. For that reason, Coppel has an advantage over its competitors since it can use that information to create new marketing strategies to target a specific customer behavior. Also, the fingerprint system has reduced the possibility of fraud since every single customers information is linked to his or her fingerprint. This system has proved very useful in Argentina and Brazil where most customers (low income class) hardly carry an ID with them. Another innovating process is Coppelââ¬â¢s distribution system. The reason is that Coppel has 19 warehouses with 127 distribution centers to supply all its stores in 337 different cities in Mexico (DigitalPersona 2012). The distribution system is in-house designed which means that Coppel can modify it whenever is needed without having aid from an external provider. This decreases the response time when a challenge is raised. Also, Coppelââ¬â¢s system updates in real time. This means that the company knows exactly what products are being sold at any given time and what products are on the delivery trucks. In addition, Coppel daily supplies all the stores just with the right amount of goods that were sold the day before using small trucks with low gasoline consumption or pressured gas to keep down the cost. It also offers free delivery to its customers. This is a competitive advantage since other competitors do not offer it free of charge and almost half of the Mexican population does not have cars. Moreover, the distribution system is very efficient that some other retailers like Wal-Mart Mexico have tried to replicate it. In Mexico, Coppel is known as an innovative firm due to its distribution and fingerprint systems. Market development. While developed marketsââ¬â¢ firms target customersââ¬â¢ needs using market intelligence, firms in emerging markets such as Coppel create customersââ¬â¢ needs by shaping customer expectations. In other words, create a ââ¬Å"Field of Dreamsâ⬠and customers will come. ââ¬Å"Coppel mejora tu vidaâ⬠is a statement that brings the customers to that ââ¬Å"Field of Dreamsâ⬠. Since customers in emerging markets are seeking to improve their life condition within their limited economic capacity, Coppel offers accessible and affordable products and services. Coppel has created and developed its own market over the last 70 years. The firm took care of the expectations of the poorest segment in Mexico and that segment has become Coppelââ¬â¢s most loyal customers. Therefore, developing a market brings more financial benefits than market orientation since the firm that develops a market gets the advantage and creates barriers for new entrants. Huawei in China and Avon in Brazil used marketing development to shape the customersââ¬â¢ expectations to positioning themselves in those markets. Nowadays, both of them are strong global competitors. Conclusion Coppel has the widest profit margin of any major Latin American retailer (Bloomberg 2012) because its strategies are based on purpose driven marketing, resource improvisation, and market development. Also, Coppel has developed a market as a result of a lifetime value that is attractive to all the stakeholders while innovating to overcome the challenges generated by the characteristics of operating in an emerging market. As mentioned by Sheth, new ideas from the emerging markets are impacting what we know about marketing. In the 1980s there was the belief that ââ¬Å"The products and methods of the industrialized world play a single tune for all the world, and the world eagerly dances to itâ⬠which was written in the 1983ââ¬â¢s article The Globalization of Markets by Theodore Levitt. This statement suggests that no adaptation was needed to Marketing practice and theory. On the other hand, Sheth says ââ¬Å"the rise of emerging market is inevitable and it will have a disruptive impact on the marketing practice and theoryâ⬠in 2011. Shethââ¬â¢s article creates the bases of what is going to be new approaches for marketing research. The emerging markets will become the focus of the next generations of marketers and firms such as Coppel will be an example of how the emerging firms are shaped by their surroundings. Purpose of theory Essay Example for Free
Purpose of theory Essay A theory can be explained as a given set of principles or statements used to give an explanation to an occurring phenomenon. Theories explain existing situations and can be used to develop solutions to identified problems within an organization especially when it has been tested for a number of times hence acceptable or producing evidence based results. A theory differs from a model in such a way that a model act as a representation of a given phenomena or the actual concept. A model can in this case be used to explain a given theory. Like a theory a model can be used to make predictions and to control a given situation. Scientific inquiry involves the use of systematic methods of collecting, analyzing and concluding data and in turn developing new inventions using scientifically gathered information or facts. The process involves the formulation of theories or hypothesis and effective experiments to test the formulated hypothesis. Naive inquiry on the other hand involves an informal collection, analysis and interpretation of data and does not necessarily include the application of critically thought ideas and skills. In this case a theory is explained using natural language. Scientific inquiry is likely to produce reliable and results or findings that can be used to find evidence based solutions to an existing problem. It makes use of collected evidence to test given ideas. Evidence based management requires the application of scientific inquiry as it involves the use of meta skills and critically thought approaches in the development of workable solutions (Judd, Kidder Smith, 1991). Tested theories act as evidence and produce explanations for existing phenomena that can be used to develop new inventions which may act as control measures or solutions Reference Judd, C. , Smith, E. , Kidder, L. Competition in the Hearing Aid Market
Competition in the Hearing Aid Market Managerial Economics The number of Americans who have hearing difficulties is too many and is still expected to rise as time goes on. This is a challenge that most people undergoing the same ordeal are expected to face under all the circumstances that aid may be available if not totally to cure hearing loss. Hearing aid is a device that can lessen the burden of auditory impairment but it can only do so much. There are still implications that the use of such can be rather viewed as a supplement only and not a corrective tool. This view alone stands actually as a deficient selling point, as people who already have the difficulty will not always depend on these aids and most probably diverge themselves from buying the product. Hence, this situation definitely hurts the sale capacity of the hearing aid industry. Lowering the Price Naturally, as the demand may not be as considerably successful, the prices of hearing aids remain static as against its normally opined high pricing. The idea of lowering the price is a positive idea but not totally a remarkable one. To take for consideration, marketing plays a pivotal role. Product innovation is still under watch as the product continues to address misconceptions about its use and its price. It can be assumed that people who need such may have to be considered based on their actual individual needs. Lowering the price is not only and always the best solution at whatever product is being marketed. Apart from the actual study conducted, it must be analyzed there upon that actual users must be first educated of the many facets of its use and the impact that it may have if chosen as a summative solution to their auditory problems. It has already been mentioned that the implication of social stigma is above the issue of purchase and poor market reception. In as much as g oing through the usual and most careful market analysis, the firms should maintain a higher standard of psycho-social research to come up with a market campaign that is devoted to curing the disease of social stigma for those who use the product if not to give false hopes of entirely curing the malady of their situation. There are market theories available to stand up as resolution before the poor market reception of hearing aids among its target users. However, there should be a critical analysis between price indices and the actual consideration of buyerââ¬â¢s behavior apart from all the equations and variables given as a cardinal rule. The sensitivity to the issues whether they are psychological, social, or economical ââ¬â must be placed under a more profound handling of the situation. Firms must take a firm hand on the derivation of serious market analysis before any insinuations that price variability is a stand alone solution to the predicament they are experiencing at the time being. Conclusion A regular consumer still considers product innovations such as unique features and warranted efficiency and necessity. Therefore, elasticity in the demand is considerable in effect that demand answers upon these mentioned industry quantifiable. It can be summarized that since economic recession is still in the midst of all considerations, lowering prices is definitely attractive but in foremost opinion product assurance of quality and effectiveness remains to be the most potent market solution in any given situation. 2. Evaluate different possible strategies that companies could implement to gain a sound position among their competitors in this hearing aids market. Use relevant theoretical concepts discussed in chapters The industry of hearing aids is said to be inelastic for most identifiable factor that it does not have too many options and features. But in the advent of market competition, market shares continue to reward the much needed product options ââ¬â meaning, there are indeed sensible market campaigns that need to be launched to rise above the competition. To understand this point of view, it is already introduced and implied earlier that price variability is a matter of fact the most convenient solution to be competitive in any given market. On the other hand, the real competition begins when a firm understands thoroughly the purchasing behavior of target consumers. It is to be understood that price indices are not only the deciding factors to be considered if firms desire to be at front of the market line. There are still aspects, which include market segmentation and full market analysis, which can only be attained through accurate SWOT analysis. Market Strategies Strategies can be indicated based on the given practices that identify with the rapport involving standard value and capacity which in turn have the maximum probability to improve its market reception and therefore increase its takings. It is also recommended that firmââ¬â¢s standard industry applications can evaluate the magnitude and outlay needed to capitalize on their income prospective, as specified by the price inelasticity of requirement in the market.à While studying the basic product mix in the market of hearing aids, it is also most helpful to introduce new features and innovations in order to entice users and buyers to purchase with loyalty and assurance. This idea will definitely maximize the growth potential and leadership in the market. Gaining a sound and comfortable position is no easy task as it takes a lot of hard work and patience. In realizing this endeavor, it should be analyzed thereon the sensitivity of the target consumers of the implications and sustaina bility of the product upon consumption. Therefore, a creative and definitive market research is important to establish a rapport among consumers and the improvement of the product itself. As stated above, lowering the prices is just one of the solutions but it cannot withstand the whole competition given all the variables of market and the social behavior of the target consumers. Recommendation Like any market competition, SWOT analysis is much reassuring. To depend on more focused research is actually being guided by the tried and tested steps and factors that will handle all the given situations if the market remains stiff and uncontrollable. Perhaps, one example that can be listed is the principle of managerial economics, which employs a wide variety of economic concepts, tools, and techniques in the decision-making process. These concepts are incorporated to be congruent in the following: the theory of the firm, which describes how businesses make a variety of decisions; the theory of consumer behavior, which describes decision making by consumers; and the theory of market structure and pricing, which describes the structure and characteristics of different market forms under which business firms operate. It can be learned that profit maximization also naturally follows when competition gets in to the right mode of market potentiality. 3. Whatà economic conditionsà are relevant in managerial decision-making and how they are related with the typical types of risk faced by a firm? Briefs Economic conditions Basically, managerial economic is about decision-making. It is what managers decide on the matters that make the atmosphere critical for the success of firms. In this light, it is important to stress that economic conditions truly affect the disadvantage that most firms may encounter as they carry on with the principles of economics and business. Definitely in this bracket are issues regarding market structure, conditions of supply and demand, technology, government regulations, international dimensions, future conditions, and macroeconomic factors. On the other hand, profit maximization is adherent to the idea that it can be liable to different concerns about restrictions encountered by the firm such as supply insufficiency, machinery, contractual clauses and liabilities, and laws and government policies. In their attempt to maximize the present value of profits, business managers must consider not only the short-term and long-term implications of decisions made within the firm, but also the many facets of external limits that their firms may experience on their way to achieve its organizational goals. Scarcity issues concern essential inputs (including skilled labor), key raw materials, energy, specialized machinery and equipment, warehouse space, and other resources. Managers naturally experience situations that may limit their ability to sustain balance in the plant capacity, which is worsened by the lack of enough resources that can make a difference in innovation, expansion and market intensification. Contractual obligations also restrict managerial decisions. Labor contracts, for example, may constrain managers flexibility in worker scheduling and work assignment. Finally, laws and regulations have to be observed. The legal restrictions can constrain decisions regarding both production and marketing activities. Examples of laws and regulations that limit managerial flexibility are: the minimum wage, health and safety standards, fuel efficiency requirements, antipollution regulations, and fair pricing and marketing practices. When it was first argued that perfect competition is the idealized version of the market structure that provides a foundation for understanding how markets toil in a capitalist-based economy, it is also understood primarily that conditions are desired to be reached and accomplished. This is in order to consider that market structure is aggressive: product mix and versatility in the market, well-developed and realized consumers and traderââ¬â¢s condition, and a veritable flow of economic mode of production and its all aspects therein. For example, it is required that the product uniqueness must not at full deny their identical nature with other lines as consumers will become oblivious of brand concerns if everything else seems to be the same from one product to another ââ¬â this is also true with the same price competitions. When a good number of trade participants prevail, this follows through a significant effect on the revenue as the idea that the population of buyers or sel lers cannot make such a significant effect and therefore will not hurt the price control in any given condition. Finally, resources and materials have already become a staple in most competitive business as agricultural products do. This in conclusion, closes the arguments about having a perfect economic condition regardless of any situation. 6. Analyze the effects of theà law of diminishing returnsà to a modern-day business. Why this law is considered a short-run phenomenon? Use appropriate examples Briefs The law of diminishing returns is definitely a short-term success, if not totally a phenomenon. It is a matter of theories between labor and capital and how things go at hand with the aspects of demand and supply. It is real and understandable that when a variable resource (labor) is added a fixed resource (capital) will dramatically augment manufacture quantity for a short time. Understandably, at a given time expected the rate of increase will fluctuate and is expected to turn more abysmal.à This is to explain that diminishing returns impinge on both the manufacture of labor and cost of production. As an example, duplication of labor and overproduction only descend to more unfavorable result as mode of production goes in the direction of surplus value. When Malthus postulated that land becomes a variable input when population becomes erratic and unstable, hence, the Law of Diminishing Returns explains further that when a fixed input like land and machineries, is joint in assembly with a changeable input, using a given technology, is expected to amplify the magnitude of the variable input, and therefore will eventually lower the efficiency of the variable contribution. One good example that can be given is the problem of overproduction in the industry of cars and other automobiles. The capitalist ideals about putting more production output each time to arrest the higher market demands come to a lull when the economic condition deepens and starts to affect the consumer behavior. In this event, it could be noted upon that the conversion of inputs into outputs is only realized based on the technology available in use. As a result, inadequate amount of inputs will produce only narrow number of productivity. Another example that can be stated herein is the labor-to-produce inputs as against the number of days and materials exhausted. Supposed that there are numbers of labor force working in a firm and produce a result given, additional input will just approximate a divisive response as against the total produce. Diminishing returns is exact in thought that it plays an important component in the proficient distribution of capitals. This is by significant turn the real concern of firms and that it ultimately desires to bestow more resources to the use in which they are more prolific. Although, as production outlays more resources to an exacting use, it can be observed that diminishing returns presents itself in which it becomes less productive. This is actually a disappointing outcome but in reality it reveals important aspects of arresting difficulties of resourceful provision of capitals. In the time of economic slowdown, it is important to establish the practical facts that diminishing returns are not what the macroeconomic future of any country needs as of the moment. This in fact argues strongly that excesses in times of recession and unscrupulous economic postulations are definitely unhealthy. However, given enough market analysis and putting more confidence to product and technological innovation, all doubts about this particular economic principle will in turn come out advantageous for the full recovery of the economic force. As strongly as it is exact with its intention, allocation of resources must be critically scrutinized in regular runs so as not to receive more losses than the expected outcomes. It is very much possible that the firms as a guiding thought and principle must not bank too much on economic principles that have no material and realistic basis.

The Rivals as a Parody of 18th Century :: essays research papers
A significant influencing factor on drama of the eighteenth century was the changing nature of the audience. By the middle of the eighteenth century, a straitlaced middle class audience had imparted to drama its vision of morality and disapproval of anything immoral. Comedy had become watered down and sentimentalized. Furthermore, the audienceââ¬â¢s rejection of unappealing facts following the ugly reality of the French Revolution and the American War of Independence, made emotionalism and tearfulness the order of the day. Oliver Goldsmith and Richard Brinsley Sheridan were two playwrights who saw that if comedy were allowed free reign along this path of sentimentalism, it would signal the end of mirth. Both appreciated the power of pure comedy and the spirit of joyous laughter and wrote plays with situations that had no call for showing the redeeming features of vice and folly at the end, but just good healthy fun. The Rivals too denounces the hollow morality and hypocrisy associated with the sentimental attitude then prevailing, projecting its writerââ¬â¢s own ideal of a spontaneous and lively light-heartedness. The plot is based on confusion over identities and multiple suitors ââ¬â a combination that leads to plenty of scope for truly funny situations: Absolute caught in the same room with both Mrs. Malaprop and Lydia present, having to play himself for one and Beverley for the other till the presence of Sir Anthony too prevents him from doing so successfully; Absolute humouring Mrs. Malaprop as himself and poking fun at her as Beverley in his note; Lydiaââ¬â¢s acceptance and rejection of the same man according to her romantic whims and fancies; the final duel where one man has to fight two rivals virtually simultaneously. Sheridanââ¬â¢s skill is only underlined by the fact that in an age ââ¬â and the performance house in which he produced plays ââ¬â where spectacle, sce nery and lighting had become indispensable to success, he achieved his comedy and triumph without recourse to any of it, merely on the strength of his own writing, wit and dialogue. Sentimentalism is found largely in the characters of Lydia and Faulkland. Sheridan attacks their traits in the overall plot and theme in which he shows how a healthy deep love can be threatened by such fanciful thinking. The only ââ¬Ëredeemingââ¬â¢ feature ââ¬â probably in a reversal of the trend of soppy final redemptions - he shows at the end is that both are brought with a rude shock down to earth following the very real possibility of losing the partners they come to know they love deeply.

Ghost Story of the New Jersey Devil Essay -- Ghost Stories Urban Legen
The New Jersey Devil The Legend of the Jersey Devil is the most prominent legend that is told to citizens of New Jersey; it is mainly told to elementary school aged children. There are a variety of settings that the story has; however, the most common location that is used when retelling the tale is Leeds Point, NJ, which is in the Pine Barrens region of the state. This tale of the Jersey Devil recounts the existence of a supernatural creature that is said to have terrorized the New Jersey Pine Barrens and surrounding areas for the last 260 years. The teller of this version of the legend is a Caucasian female who is eighteen years of age and attends the University of Maryland. She comes from a middle class family and believes in the Christian faith. As a New Jersey native, this young woman was originally told this story when she was a child in school. She admits that as a child, she believed the tale as true; however, at this age, she no longer believes in the existence of the New Jersey Devil. Wh ile on the way to class, we discussed New Jerseyââ¬â¢s most famous legend, and she was able to recount the tale: Well about three hundred years ago, there was a woman by the name of Mrs. Shrouds. She lived in the New Jersey Pine Barrens with her family. Times were hard for her, and she couldnââ¬â¢t deal with having such a big family. Since she was so angry about her children and having to grow and cook food for them, she said, ââ¬ËIf I have another child, I want it to be the devil.ââ¬â¢ Well, then she got pregnantâ⬠¦ again, and she had her thirteenth child. The child was born deformed and actually looked like a devil. It had horns and wings and everything. Because of its deformity, Mrs. Shrouds kept her child locked in the basement so t... ...exemplifies the belief of society that witches can only be allied with the sin and malevolence. In addition, the Jersey Devil is used as a scapegoat; it is to blame when farm animals are missing or crops are destroyed. The story telling abilities of the young woman recounting the tale of the Jersey Devil showed its currency as well as the storytellers skepticism. She told it as if the story was common knowledge, performing the tale somewhat matter-of-factly. This tone of voice made the legend seem less of a supernatural occurrence. Consequently, it became obvious that the teller had little belief in the story, for she minimized the mystical elements. She did incorporate a few pauses in her speech in an attempt to make the story slightly suspenseful. Experiences in the Writing Center Essay -- Personal Narrative Writing
Experiences in the Writing Center When I started to work at the Writing Center, I had about eleven years of experience in tutoring English as a foreign language to non-native English speakers in Germany. The experience I had gained from that proved to be very helpful. Before you can address the problems in writing, like any other problem, it is very important to get to know the writer. If you can build a bridge between the two individuals, who should work together in a tutoring session, it is a lot easier to discuss problems and find solutions. As some of the problems might have personal reasons or it might be difficult for the writer to discuss the reason for some obstacles in writing well, a more personal basis supports any work in that way. Looking back at the sessions I tutored in this quarter, I would like to focus on the problems of one student. The student brought three papers to the center, and his papers showed problems in constructing complete and correct sentences, as well as defining paragraphs, and some of his sentences sounded awkward. These problems occurred in all his papers. After a brief introduction and some questioning about the content of each paper, it became obvious that the writer was able to tell me exactly what he wanted to talk about and in what order paper should appear. Yet, he had the problem of bringing his thoughts onto his paper. We started to discuss some sentences of his first paragraph, where he concentrated almost only on the content of what he wanted to say, but never on the way HOW he could express his thoughts clearly to a reader. To him the fragmented sentences, put together piece after piece, containing a lot of information, made completely sense, because he KNEW what he w... ...hod to make writers aware, that an essential part of their sentence is missing, is to use symbols that refer to the parts of the sentence. So far, I have had quite some good results in explaining it that way: The writer has to pay attention! The sentence ends with an exclamation mark -- put together with the symbols square, upward triangle, and ellipse (). The three symbols put together on top of each other resemble an exclamation mark (). If these three parts are separated again, they have the following meaning: = square = 's' like in SUBJECT = "V" with top = 'v' like in VERB = "O" = 'o' like in OBJECT. If the writer draws these symbols around the corresponding parts in the sentences, then it becomes visually clear which part is missing. A lot of people learn easier this way and find a way to memorize the essential parts of any sentence easier.

Restaurant Review Essay
Review of China Buffet Restaurant I am a food lover, and I enjoyed eating in a Chinese restaurant. I tried different restaurants in our place, but what interests me most is the China Buffet Restaurant. China Buffet is located at Madison Avenue at the heart of Mankato, one of the biggest cities in Minnesota. The restaurant has a seating capacity of approximately 100 people. They have several food stations. Although the name China Buffet speaks for itself, their food stations consist of American, Italian, and Japanese food. The owner purposely includes a variety of food because of competition. I enjoyed eating at China Buffet because of its affordability, delicious food, and the beautiful setting. The price of their buffet is $10 per person, and it includes beverages. There are a variety of salads in their salad station: fruit, vegetable, and seafood. Their main meal is composed of chicken, pork, beef, and fish. For dessert, they serve ice cream, cookies, and different kinds of cakes. For their beverages, they serve so da, milk, juice, and chocolate milk, but tea is my favorite. The food is excellent so itââ¬â¢s well worth the price. China Buffetââ¬â¢s food is excellent and healthy. They have food stations for meat lovers and vegetarians. Their newly-opened sushi and hibachi bar is the restaurantââ¬â¢s crowning glory. Sushi and California maki is my starter with matching wasabi sauce. I tried their hibachi too, but it fills me up right away. The seafood station is consisting of shrimp, crab meat, clams and mussels. They have different kinds of shrimp meal. I tried their crispy shrimp which was coated with flour and egg and some seasoning. I love the crispiness of its shell and the softness of the shrimpââ¬â¢s meat. Their chicken satay blends well with fried rice. Their ââ¬Å"Happy Familyâ⬠meal that is common in the Chinese restaurant is so delicious. They call it ââ¬Å"Happy Familyâ⬠because it has chicken, pork, beef, shrimp, and mixed vegetables stir-fried in soy sauce and sugar. When it comes to dessert, they have different kinds of ice cream, but I love Butter Pecan the most because of i ts softness and creaminess. I canââ¬â¢t help but to look around at the restaurantââ¬â¢s attractive ambiance while I am eating. A typical Chinese restaurant, there were Chinese pictures hanging, but I love the huge picture of the Great Wall of China. From afar, it looks like a mural engraved on the restaurantââ¬â¢s wall. The hanging lamp gives warmth and serenity of the area. Their utensils and drink dispensers are organized and the carpet is very clean. They have a huge fish tank where most of the children are enjoying watching the fish. The ladiesââ¬â¢ room is clean and odor free. China Buffet might not be the best Chinese Restaurant in Minnesota, but it stands out from other Chinese restaurants because itââ¬â¢s cheap. Its affordable price attracts customers to give it a try. Their delicious food is so inviting. The cozy atmosphere makes it a perfect place to eat and bond with a family. This week, I focused on improving my draft thesis statement, organization, developing my conclusion, and correcting grammar and comma errors. I omitted the third person in my first paragraph to demonstrate that my primary audience is my Professor. I read aloud my essay and found some grammatical errors. I read my Professorââ¬â¢s comments and edited my essay by following what she had written in the comments. I followed Smarthinkingââ¬â¢s editing advice on grammar and comma errors.
